Upcycled Greenhouses

Brrrrrr! It’s lovely to have somewhere warmer to keep precious plants over Winter!

A few years ago (quite a few, actually!) we started collecting old steel framed windows from the tip shop and Gumtree with a view to building a bespoke recycled glasshouse.

I wanted it to nestle into the garden and look homemade but not too much! We used treated pine framing, steel windows, cement sheeting and polycarbonate for the roof.

The floor is paved and it is tucked in behind my potting shed which was an original feature. Painting the frame black helps to tie the different materials together and gives it a stylish modern look and helps it to sit quietly in the garden and doesn’t compete with the view to the mountain.

I use it to propagate cuttings of my favourites and to protect my succulents in Winter.

Recycling old windows is a great way to build something unique for your garden and helps keep useful materials out of landfill!
